A few weeks ago I read an article entitled "Ten Things Photographers Should do in 2013" and I really connected with one particular thing.
Diversify.
Since graduating from SVA I've spent a lot of time shooting work and looking at work trying to figure out what I do and who I am. You know -- my "style."
What I love about the section diversify is that what Gail encourages is for photographers to stop being so narrowly defined by that style they are trying to create and be prepared to change.
In a sense, this is what I have found out on my own over the past few months. That I don't have to be defined by a style. That I can continue to try to do as much as I can and be willing to act as a chameleon and adapt for my clients and myself. This is something I learned to do with my background in different styles of dance and I'm grateful I can still utilize that toolset.
So in essence, I will continue to allow myself to not be defined by a style. I will continue to strive to not limit myself. I will continue to be open. Because it's something I think I should do in 2013.
